Shop Border cont.Shasta Daisies "Monsieur H Siebelt" (L) or "Esther Read" (R) need constant division to prevent them from running amok or wearing themselves out. (L) One of my favourite plants; "Canon Went". The pink form of the ubiquitous weed, Purple Toadflax. (R) Another pink, the buddleia "Pink Sensation" may be wonderful to look at but I have never seen a butterfly as much as glance at it. (L) The flat heads of Achillea "Gold Plate". The pungent foliage also acts as an aphid repellant. (C) Centaurea macrocephala, a reliable late flowering cornflower for poorer soils. (R) Rudbeckia "Goldsturm" Although I am a big fan of pastel colours, It is always a good idea to throw in a few hot colours from time to time to break up what could quite easily get a bit monotonous. Yellows fit beautifully between whites and blues and contrast really well with purples.Late summer wouldn't be the same without Michaelmas daisies. Both Audrey, (L) and Purple Emperor (C) are completely mildew and wilt resistant. (R) Aster Amellus, " Pink Chintz " has the added bonus of remaining open on dull days. Helenium "Moorheim Beauty" puts on a fiery splash well into October.
