Rose Beds cont.
(L) Repeat flowering, "Stanwell Perpetual" is the ideal rose
for a chalky soil. (C) An unnamed Gallica. A present from a
well-wisher, it grows on its own rootstock, thus eliminating any worries about
suckering. (R) "Belle du Crecy".
Old-fashioned
roses fill the air with their heady perfume in high summer.
(L) The rose "Albertine"
smothers a seat with its orange scent. (R) Close up.
(L) "Celsiana", a contender for the clearest rose. (C)
Beautifully muddled, "Quatre Saisons" (R) "Jacques
Cartier" looks more like the peony "Sarah Bernhart".
(L) The green eyed, Alba "Mme Hardy" stays pure white
even after the heaviest rain. (C) There are many red or purple roses that can
be used in the garden, I much prefer pink or white as they harmonize so easily. The pretentiously named "Camieaux", is both.
(R) Rosa rugosa, "Blanc Double de Coubert" repeat flowers for
much of the summer and produces good hips in the autumn.
