reed bunting 3a.jpg (19699 bytes) best stonechat 1a.jpg (37726 bytes)

(L) Reed Bunting. This picture was taken as the bird visited a feeder - something I would never have expected! (R) Although not their ideal habitat, Stonechats are regular winter visitors and vigourously defend their little patch of territory.

(L) These moorhen chicks were so naive or tame that they had to be picked up and carried to safety before mowing could begin. (R) After a week or two they tend to look more daft than cute.

 (L) Grey wagtails are infrequent visitors but can be seen darting out from a prominent perch to catch insects on the wing. (C) Sedge Warblers prefer to stay hidden amongst the reed stems and are infuriatingly difficult to spot. (R) Whitethroats are another bird that will feed in the rose beds when they think that no one is around

Low winter sun turns the reed bed silver and bronze.
