While Tina has been working in the sunshine of the Southern side towards the chimney and the Western end, (to the right in this picture) Roger and Yuriko have been steadily plugging away, working in the opposite direction, in the freezing cold and dark on the Northern side. The fact that frost appears in all these pictures and that I have had to use a flash on every shot reflects the contrast between the two. (L) Heading towards the Eastern end on the North side (C&R) Work proceeds despite the freezing temperatures. Frost brings a new dimension to the thatch. As was the case on the South side, any low spots are filled with a patch before finally being covered over by the new layer of thatch. Before and After. Roger is steaming down the North side and has nearly reached the point where he can start to build and join the East hip. The overhanging tufts of superfluous straw where both Roger and Tina have met on the ridge can be trimmed off with shears. |
